top 3 favourite spy movies

29/2/2024

I watched Argyle in the cinema and had such a great time. It's so much fun. I'm not fond of spy movies, unless they are comedies, so here are my top three favourite spy comedy movies.

Argyle
A woman has the ability to tell the future and a secret spy organisation is hunting her down, while a rogue spy is trying to save her life. A stylish and fun spy movie that uppends all your expectations and where the motto “the bigger the spy, the bigger the lie,” is a promise and a prediction.

Spy
Melissa McCarthy is superb in this spy movie that subverts all the rules of the genre. I have re-watched this so many times and each time laughed so hard. It has a great thread about female empowerment and friendship.

The Long Kiss Goodnight
An amnesiac who has lived a life as a suburban mother finds out she has a secret deadly past. This has so many quips and one liners that I laugh at every single time I watch this, which is about 10 times now, and a heartfelt thread about motherhood that makes me cry.

the iceberg of creativity

29/2/2024

It's my day off and I've spent an hour and a half at my studio so far this morning, pitching articles. I wrote an opinion piece that I pitched to two outlets. One of them passed and asked me to pitch again, the second asked if I would be willing to be a subject and that they use my story. I passed as I'm searching for a paycheck. Then I received an email from a third outlet asking me if I have any ideas to pitch. It's just amazing how you don't know how your day will pan out as a creative. So this morning:

★I submitted the completed article to a third outlet

★I pitched three article ideas to the editor who contacted me

★And I pitched two articles to the editor who passed, but asked me to pitch.

So fingers crossed, let's see what lands.

I'm sharing this because sometimes it seems that things come so easily to people, but it's the iceberg scenario. You don't see the twenty five years that I've dedicated myself to the craft of writing. The books that I wrote that didn't get anywhere. The books I wrote that got published and edited and reviewed and won prizes that built my confidence.

The last five years that I have been developing my freelance writing profile by writing articles and pitching. The editors who took a chance on me and mentored by editing my pieces, and help shape pitches. The slow gradual rise of the tide where my profile has evolved so that I have editors contacting me.

So I say to any of you who have a dream that involves being a creative: dare to dream and work hard to achieve it. Get yourself out there and pitch, and write, and pitch some more. It does get easier, but it's always work.

And if you want to see the hard work behind the iceberg, go to my linktree and look at my articles and bio.

top 3 favourite time slip movies

25/2/2024

One of my favourite genre of movies is time slip movies where the protagonist is trapped in a day and is trying to change events. There’s something about the possibility of changing the future.

I watched Madame Web and loved it so much, and am so disappointed with the negative reviews. They remind me of the misogyny that surrounded Ghostbusters because it was a female cast and female centred story and I love that movie so much.

Here are my top three time slip movies that I have re-watched so many times, and Madame Web is going on that list.

Madame Web
A movie about the power of motherhood, bonds of sisterhood, and strength of womanhood. Loved it so much. I want more.

Edge of Tomorrow
A coward has the power to reset the day to try and save the world when aliens attack. Tom Cruise is so funny and Emily Blunt a tough soldier.

Groundhog Day
Heartfelt day about a man stuck in a town he hates, in a job he loathes, and a day he wants to end. So much fun and heart.
