I listened to this as an audiobook and absolutely loved it.
Told through dual perspectives, the story follows DeShona—passive, frustrating, but ultimately effective as a character—and Reid, an insurance investigator returning to his hometown to determine whether a fatal car accident was really an accident. Of course, it isn’t that simple. Reid drives the narrative, but DeShona’s perspective builds a quiet, creeping tension as we piece together what led to the crash. The writing is tight and controlled—short, sharp sentences, strong sensory detail, and recurring imagery that adds an unsettling edge. The pacing keeps you hooked, and the ending genuinely surprised me. The audiobook narration (Anthea Greco and Nick Ravens) was excellent and added real depth to the characters. What stood out most is that months later, I still remember the plot clearly—which almost never happens for me. That says everything. If you like psychological thrillers that keep you guessing, this is well worth it.
