When you are parented by #bipolar sufferer you grow up early. I always felt out of step with my peers who had adults to protect them and give them a childhood. I had grown up being my mother’s defecto carer and always are of consequences because I was subjected to them early on. As a migrant from a Non-English Speaking Background she wasn’t even sure of the name of her medical condition and had been diagnosed as schizophrenic, yet she was a #bipolar sufferer. Knowing the label gave my family clarity and we were able to work with medical professionals to support her.
